Other states that have legalized medical marijuana have struggled to garner physician interest. Some in Ohio worry there won't be enough doctors willing to recommend certified marijuana to meet patient demand. Others foresee no issues after the initial push. And with Northeast Ohio hospital systems slow to get behind medical marijuana as a valid treatment, it may fall to independent and unaffiliated doctors to get CTRs and meet patient demand.
"I guess the fear is that if the hospitals don't come along, will that impede the ability of the program to succeed?" said Craig Haran, a health care attorney at Frantz Ward in Cleveland.
